Provisional Licence
Before you can learn to drive you will need to obtain a provisional driving licence.
You can apply for a provisional driving licence from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA). The application form (form D1) can be obtained from your local Post Office ®.
Minimum Age
Currently in the UK you have to be 17 years of age to obtain a provisional licence to drive a car or ride a motorcycle (unless in receipt of a full disability allowance, when you can obtain a provisional licence at the age of 16 years).
Eyesight Requirements

Before the practical driving test, your driving examiner will ask you to read the number plate on a stationary vehicle. The distance requirement for the old-style number plate is 20.5 metres. The distance requirement for the eyesight test with the new-style number plate is 20 metres. New-style number plates were introduced on 1 September, 2001 and are easily identifiable because they start with two letters ie AB51 ABC. For more information on eyesight requirements click here
